Day 2 & 3

Monday: It is so very windy! Kirk drove the motorhome for several hours with white knuckles. We drove through the remainder of Texas, all through Oklahoma, Missouri and part into Illinois (all in one day). Brittany and Holly really liked Oklahoma. There were rolling hills, lots of green trees and grass. It was a little surprising to us. We were expecting just flat grassy lands. As we continued east into Missouri, the trees got thicker and just more green everywhere. There were some places where the road was cut out of the rocky hills with greenery growing out from the cracks. It really was beautiful. But then again, it sure was windy. We have travelled mostly (so far) on the I-40, which goes alongside the infamous Route 66. About 5 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, the air conditioning in the truck part of the motorhome stopped working. We stopped to check it out and realized that the compressor had frozen up. No more a/c for us. It was a little hot and sticky. We made it to St. Louis, MO and stopped at the Gateway Arch. It was awesome! It was dark so our pictures didn't turn out too well. We crossed the Mississippi River and into Illinois. We stopped the night in Effingham, Illinois. We spent the night in the Walmart parking lot. We kept the generator on and the a/c all night. It was a cool restful night.

Tuesday: We went to the Ford dealership first thing in the morning to find out if they could fix our a/c. They told us to come back later in the day. Then we went to a home where Kirk was going to do some work at (a railing needed some touchups). The house was right on the lake with a lakehouse and boat dock. The house was beautiful and the view was even more amazing. We spent a few hours there. The kids played & swam in the lake. We realized that the touchups were more than we could handle in a few hours, along with a few other issues, so we left. Next stop: ford dealership. This time, there was a more pleasant service writer who was helpful and willing to get our job done soon. However, we would learn a couple of hours later that the job was a little more complicated than an a/c compressor. So they would have to order parts that would come in the next day. So we are stuck in Effingham. We found a very nice RV park in town that is in the trees and we are parked back against a lake. At least we found a nice relaxing spot to stay. There is even a tornado watch tonight. It is actually very breezy and thunder is cracking overhead and the rain has begun. It might be quite a night. We hope to have the motorhome fixed by early afternoon tomorrow and then we'll have to high-tail it to Cleveland.
